Description

Would it be easy to add an option for monospace font in the post editor? -- Or maybe use monospace by default when the visual editor is disabled?

Thanks!

  • Milestone 2.6 deleted
  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

See #4843, the concensus seems to be for this to be plugin material.

Thanks!

I saw that ticket before posting, but I think it is different; what I refer to is the POST editor in: wp-admin/post-new.php

I was able to change its font to monospace by editing: wp-admin/css/global.css (this in WP 2.5)

I find it inconvenient to use a non-visual, plain-text editor with a proportional font, but, if there is no demand for a change, I guess it makes sense to leave it as it is. :-)

btw, the visual mode of the editor does not seem to be affected by the change in wp-admin/css/global.css -- but I don't know what else may have been affected...

Thanks again,
Demetris

Demetris, it looks like the same issue to me. What am I missing?

The other ticket says CODE editor, and the hack mentioned does not seem to apply to the POST editor, so I thought this other ticket was about editing the WordPress code.

Here I’m talking about regular, everyday posting, that is, the regular post editor in non-visual mode (what you get if you go to your profile and untick "Use the visual editor when writing").

Posting is something I do much more often than hacking into the WP code, :-) and the post editor in non-visual mode is inconvenient: I use some html markup, and markup is not easy to read in a proportional font -- my inconvenient workaround is copying and pasting back and forth between the WP editor and a text editor.

In general I find WP really well thought-out and impressively easy-to-use, apart from this inconvenient and inconsistent aspect: a non-visual editor that does not use a monospace font. :-)

Code is the label in WP 2.3 for the non-visual editor tab. On trunk this has been changed to HTML, so I stand by this being the same issue.

I don't have any strong feelings about it either way, but your strong argument would be best presented on that ticket.

I see now! :-)

I was not seeing the HTML tab at all because the visual mode was disabled in my profile (in this case, you just get a plain text area, without toolbars and without Visual and HTLM tabs). It seems to be the same issue.

Thank you for your help!
